HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Poway Seeded First in Volleyball
SAN DIEGO — Defending Palomar League and Division I volleyball champion Poway High School is the top-seeded team going into the San Diego Section playoffs, it was announced Saturday after a pairings meeting at the County Education Office.
The Titans received a first-round bye--as did 28 of the 38 Division I (1,600 and above enrollment) teams--and take a perfect 26-0 record into postseason play. They will play the winner of Monday’s first-round match between Hilltop and Mira Mesa Tuesday at home.
Palomar League runner-up Torrey Pines (19-2), whose only losses were to Poway in league play, was awarded the No. 2 seed. Metro League champion Bonita Vista (25-1) and a third Palomar League representative, San Dieguito (25-6), are the third and fourth Division I seeded teams.
City Western League winner USDHS (16-2) was selected as the top-seeded team in the 11-draw Division II (700-1,599 enrollment). La Jolla (15-9), Escondido (18-0) and Mission Bay (7-7) are the other top-seeded teams. Division II play begins Wednesday.
In the 17-team Division III draw that begins Monday, Harbor League champion Christian (20-4) was awarded the No. 1 seed. Francis Parker (15-13) and Calvin Christian (14-5) are the second- and third-seeded teams.

St. Augustine 36, Christian 0--St. Augustine (6-3, 3-1) remained tied for first with Lincoln and Crawford by shutting out Christian (3-6, 1-3) at Granite Hills. Saints quarterback Marco Cabanillas completed nine of 12 passes for 176 yards, including touchdown passes to Larry Murasky (40 yards), Zack Smith (45) and Barrett Pricor (12). Jesse Williams recovered a fumble to set up Hunter Buckner’s four-yard touchdown run that made it 7-0. Saints led, 22-0, at the half.
