Alejo Mancisidor, a Pepperdine freshman, won the men’s open singles championship in the Southern California Tennis Assn.’s 103rd sectional championships. He defeated Larry Barnett, 7-5, 7-6.

Winners in Class B men’s doubles were Marc Dabber of West Los Angeles and Dean Stackel of Los Angeles.

Jay Pittman shot a 33 for nine holes to win the A flight in the Penmar Men’s Golf Club’s October tournament. Other flight winners and their gross scores were Elias Harb, B, 36; Sam Brumbaugh, C, 38; Steve Dragovich, D, 40, and Al Monk, temporary handicaps, 36.

Holes in one were scored by John Lehman of West Los Angeles at Rancho Park Golf Course and by Cissy Callahan and Stephen Osborne, both of West Los Angeles, at the Rancho nine-hole course.

Albert Poirier of West Los Angeles scored two eagles in one round at the Roosevelt nine-hole course, and Bridgitte Trowbridge of West Los Angeles had an eagle at Penmar.

Mark Caso, former UCLA star gymnast and ex-national team member, and Zina Mironov, one of the nation’s top rhythmic gymnastics coaches, have joined the coaching staff of the Wilshire YMCA.

Dr. O’Neal Hadnott of Marina del Rey, a retired surgeon, shot rounds of 71-75 to win the 38th annual Los Angeles City Senior Men’s Golf Tournament. Hadnott, who also won the Riviera Country Club’s senior title this year, defeated Norm Gottfredson of Brookside by four strokes in the City tournament at Griffith Park.

Jack McEdwards of West Los Angeles, a 92-year-old retired film production manager, won his 11th trophy for being the oldest golfer in the Los Angeles City Senior Men’s Golf Tournament. McEdwards is the father of director-producer Blake Edwards.

Evans Butler defeated Vinne Heid, two-up, in medal play to win the Penmar Men’s Golf President’s Cup.
