Earning the Accolades of His Peers
Twenty-seven deputies, firefighters, paramedics, civilians--and one dog--were honored on Thursday at the 10th annual Lakewood Award of Valor ceremonies.
Sheriff’s Deputy Philip D. Geisler and his canine partner, Arco, were among those receiving awards for exceptional work from the City of Lakewood.
While responding to an armed robbery call, Arco--part of the Sheriff’s Department K-9 special enforcement unit--was shot in the shoulder by an armed robbery suspect who had hidden beneath a pile of stuffed animals. Geisler shot and killed the suspect.
The deputy said he might have been injured if the dog had not alerted him to the man’s whereabouts.
