WORLD IN BRIEF : SRI LANKA : Crackdown Targets Sinhalese Extremists

Troops raided a clandestine radio station and captured its operator in a dragnet that is decimating the leadership of an extremist group of Sinhalese nationalists, officials in Colombo said. In addition, the bodies of 31 suspected Sinhalese extremists were discovered in the central hills, officials said. They blamed the killings on pro-government vigilantes. Security forces earlier seized and killed Rohana Wijeweera, senior leader of the People’s Liberation Front.
