Arson May Be Linked to College AIDS Play
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — An arson fire that destroyed a student’s house may be linked to his support of a controversial play about AIDS, authorities said Thursday.
The fire destroyed the rented home of theater major Brad Evans, 22, on Wednesday night as he was taking part in an AIDS vigil outside the theater where the play “The Normal Heart” was opening at Southwest Missouri State.
“Someone poured a flammable liquid on the front porch, in the front room and in another room,” Detective Jerry Coday said. He said no one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.
