WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : 5 Accused of Selling Missile Equipment

Three South Africans and two Americans were indicted in Washington for allegedly conspiring to export $50-million worth of U.S. missile-guidance equipment to South Africa through Israel. The five were charged as part of an ongoing Customs Service undercover operation in which agents posed as arms brokers. The equipment, made by Los Angeles-based Northrop Corp., was destined for Armscor, the South African national arms company. The Justice Department said Northrop cooperated in the probe.
