FALL ROUNDUP : CSUN Sweeps Pomona for 100th CCAA Win
Cal State Northridge won its 100th--and possibly last--California Collegiate Athletic Assn. regular-season women’s volleyball match Thursday night.
The visiting Lady Matadors, who will move up to the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Division I level next year, swept Cal Poly Pomona, 15-13, 15-11, 15-11, to position themselves for a possible four-way tie for first in the conference.
If Chapman and Cal State Bakersfield win Friday, and if Bakersfield beats UC Riverside on Saturday, then Bakersfield, Riverside, Chapman and Northridge will finish with 9-3 conference records, necessitating a Sunday playoff for the championship.
Northridge (25-10) was led by Alissa Evans, Keira Middleton and Kathleen Dixon with 10 kills each.
Girls’ Tennis
Calabasas 9, Capistrano Valley 9 (Calabasas advances because of 68-65 advantage in total games)--Paced by its superior strength in singles play, Calabasas High upset top-ranked Capistrano Valley in a Southern Section 3-A Division match at Capistrano Valley.
Calabasas (17-0) won seven of nine singles matches to advance to Tuesday’s final at the Claremont Racquet Club. Calabasas will play Dana Hills, a 14-4 winner over San Marino Thursday.
Men’s Basketball
Glendale 76, Central Arizona 61--Sophomore forward Dave Swanson scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Vaqueros to a season-opening, first-round victory in the Cypress tournament.
Glendale will play Ventura tonight at 6 in the second round. Ventura defeated Meramac, Mo., 78-66.
Women’s Basketball
Moorpark 80, San Diego Mesa 31--Debra Rabin scored a game-high 21 points to lead Moorpark (2-0) to a first-round victory in the Long Beach City tournament.
