Valley Drivers Prevail at Ventura Raceway
The 1989 stock car racing series ended at Ventura Raceway on Friday night with Valley-area drivers winning season points championships in all four divisions.
Charles Utts of Camarillo won the Street Stock oval championship and Camarillo’s Jeff Bosley took the title in the Street Stock figure 8 division.
In the Mini Stock oval division, only 10 points separated Gary Curtis of Camarillo and Rock Ake Jr. of Moorpark heading into the last race of the series.
Ake held a 20-point lead over Curtis going into the 25-lap main event. Oxnard’s Jim Jewett drove to the victory and Ake finished second. Curtis finished fifth, giving Ake a 60-point margin of victory for the championship.
