Four Held After Drive-By Shooting Injures 2
LA HABRA — Four suspected gang members were arrested early Saturday in connection with a late-night drive-by shooting that resulted in two slight injuries, police said.
La Habra Police Sgt. Jerry Cline said that the 10:50 p.m. Friday night shooting occurred at 210 S. Hazel St.
Paul Ramos, 18, of La Habra, was standing in front of an apartment complex with a 14-year-old friend, Cline said.
The youth’s identity was withheld because of his age.
The two told police they noticed that the driver of a pickup truck heading toward them suddenly turned off the vehicle’s headlights, Cline said.
As the truck pulled alongside Ramos and the teen-ager, at least
one of three passengers riding in the bed of the truck opened fire with a firearm of unknown caliber.
The 14-year-old was struck in the right knee, Cline said, and was taken to Friendly Hills Regional Medical Center in La Habra for treatment.
Ramos was hit in the foot and refused treatment, Cline said.
In two separate roundups, police later arrested Paul Morales, 19, and Mario Galindo, 18, both of La Habra, in connection with the shooting, Cline said.
They were taken to Orange County Jail in Santa Ana.
Two teen-agers, one 16 and the other 17, were also arrested, and taken to Juvenile Hall, he added.
Cline said an investigation is under way to determine a motive for the shooting, but he confirmed that it is gang-related.
