WORLD : U.N. Assembly OKs Child Rights

UNITED NATIONS — After 10 years of negotiations and controversy, the General Assembly today unanimously adopted the first Convention on the Rights of the Child, creating the most comprehensive treaty for protection of children in history.
The convention draws together in a single document the key provisions of existing international declarations affecting children. It breaks new ground on adoption, survival, and protection from sexual exploitation and drug abuse.
