CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : FRESNO : Arms Smuggler Sentenced to Prison
A Modesto man was sentenced in Fresno to five years and four months in federal prison after pleading guilty in two cases involving the smuggling of guns into the Philippines. In the first case, Richard Dean Pedrioli, 46, was accused of attempting to smuggle 74 firearms and 1,400 primer caps that federal agents found aboard a commercial airliner being readied for takeoff from San Francisco International Airport. In the second, Pedrioli was charged with having a Utah woman smuggle 70 handguns out of the United States. Pedrioli said he duped Dominique Adams, a 22-year-old fashion model from Salt Lake City, into smuggling the handguns. She is currently in custody in Manila.
