Oregon to Accept Independence Bowl Berth
Oregon is going to its first bowl game in more than a quarter century, the university’s president said Monday.
Myles Brand said the Ducks have been invited to play Tulsa Dec.16 in the Independence Bowl at Shreveport, La.
The last time Oregon (5-3 in the Pacific 10, 7-4 overall) appeared in a bowl game was 1963, when the Ducks beat Southern Methodist in the Sun Bowl.
Oregon finished the regular season at 5-3 in the Pacific 10 Conference and 7-4 overall, the best record since 1964.
Coach Rich Brooks said he was very pleased about the invitation.
“The only disappointment is that the success and failure of the year sometimes depends on some committee making a decision,” Brooks said.
