A federal judge in Los Angeles has set an April 17 trial date for three former U.S. narcotics agents and two others charged with participating in a drug trafficking and money laundering scheme.

A 42-count indictment, the result of a Drug Enforcement Administration corruption investigation, names as defendants former narcotics agents Darnell Garcia, 42, of Rancho Palos Verdes; John Jackson, 40, of Claremont, and Wayne Countryman, 46, of Walnut.

Garcia, a fugitive for seven months, was arrested in Luxembourg last July. A government prosecutor, Mark A. Byrne, told U.S. District Judge Terry J. Hatter Jr. that Garcia was expected to be extradited to Los Angeles by January.
