Culver City : Zoning Changed for Project
The Culver City Council and Redevelopment Agency, meeting jointly on Monday, cleared the first obstacle to a proposed 181-unit townhouse project near the Fox Hills Mall by amending the Redevelopment Plan for the area to allow residential uses.
The 12.6-acre site, on the east side of Hannum Avenue between Playa Street and Slauson Avenue, had been designated for industrial and commercial use. It is occupied by Volkswagen of America’s western region headquarters, a parking lot and a vacant building formerly occupied by the Internal Revenue Service.
Dominion Property Co., of Santa Monica, is purchasing the property and will probably submit its townhouse plans to the city next month, said Debbie L. Rich, deputy director of redevelopment. The plans will be subject to the usual Planning Commission review and public hearing process, Rich said.
