Some years ago, John F. Kennedy wrote “Profiles in Courage,” a book about the actions of extraordinary people during extraordinarily difficult times. Kennedy’s heroes all had one thing in common: the courage to act consistent with their convictions, and without regard to personal consequences.
Today, a different breed of politician prevails. They profess private principles but act publicly in stark contradiction to their convictions.
These politicians say they are “personally opposed” to abortion on demand. They believe abortion on demand is morally and ethically wrong. They cannot personally justify the killing of a human fetus merely because he or she is unwanted, inconvenient or embarrassing.
Yet publicly they avow that women should have an absolutely unfettered, arbitrary and capricious license to kill their preborn offspring for any reason, or for no reason at all.
I propose that these politicians be featured in a sequel to Kennedy’s book entitled “Profiles in Hypocrisy.”
