THE SOUTH : Sisson Kicks Georgia Tech Past Boston College, 13-12
Scott Sisson’s 35-yard field goal with 42 seconds left, his second from that distance in the final minutes, gave Georgia Tech a 13-12 victory over Boston College Saturday at Atlanta.
Georgia Tech (6-4) assured itself its first winning season in four years with a rally that featured a 72-yard interception return by Ken Swilling for the game’s only touchdown.
Boston College (2-9) led most of the way as Brian Lowe kicked field goals of 43, 41, 37 and 46 yards.
Swilling intercepted three passes thrown by Mark Power, the last to assure the victory with 12 seconds left.
Southern Mississippi 41, East Carolina 27--Quarterback Bret Favre passed for three touchdowns and tailback Rickey Bradley ran for two to lead Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg, Miss.
Favre completed 26 of 35 passes for 286 yards as The Golden Eagles closed out their season at 5-6. East Carolina finished at 5-5-1.
Two of Favre’s touchdown passes went to Michael Jackson and the other to Eddie Ray Jackson.
Southern Mississippi’s Tony Smith also returned returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown.
East Carolina quarterback Travis Hunter was the game’s leading rusher with 98 yards. Hunter also passed for two touchdowns.
