NATION : Patient in Stuck Wheelchair Dies
ROMULUS, Mich. — One of two quadriplegics whose wheelchairs got stuck on a gravel nature trail near their rehabilitation center died after they were stranded overnight in near-freezing weather, officials said today.
Alan Rogers Sr. and William Felker left the Apple Tree Lane Rehabilitation Care Center around 4 p.m. Saturday while the temperature was 46 degrees.
Felker “said he got stuck first and warned his friend, who continued about 20 more feet before his wheelchair got stuck, too,” said administrator Joseph Richert.
During the night, Felker fell asleep and said that when he awoke early Sunday, Rogers, 40, was dead. The temperature had fallen to 34.
