‘Model Neighborhood’ Program Being Expanded
In a bid to combat drugs and gangs, the city’s “model neighborhood” program has been expanded to include an area in Watts after a successful stint in West Los Angeles, Mayor Tom Bradley announced.
The program is a public and private sector partnership designed to promote neighborhood watch, graffiti removal and clean-up efforts in crime-ridden communities. Kaiser Permanente Hospital contributed $75,000 for the initial model program last year in West Los Angeles. The Watts Health Foundation donated $90,000 to fund the expansion in Watts for the next two years.
