William C. Murphy; Former Eli Lilly Executive

William C. Murphy, 67, an uncle of Vice President Dan Quayle and a former executive of Eli Lilly & Co. Murphy was manager of Lilly’s public information department in Indianapolis before going to Washington, where he directed the pharmaceutical company’s public relations office from 1964 until he retired in 1975. He received a Brookings Institute Fellowship in Washington in January, 1964. After his retirement, he continued to work for the Indianapolis-based company through his own firm, Murphy & Associates. During World War II, Murphy piloted 33 missions over Europe in B-17 bombers. In Baltimore on Nov. 22 of a lingering heart ailment.
