Gay Rights Group Schedules Protest
The Orange County Visibility League, a gay and lesbian civil rights organization, was scheduled to launch a 24-hour vigil Thursday night outside the county Hall of Administration in Santa Ana.
The demonstration is to protest the County Board of Supervisors’ rejection last summer of an AIDS anti-discrimination measure, said league co-chairman Kevin Farrell.
“This is also Orange County’s way of marking World AIDS Day on Friday, and a way of calling for the supervisors to reconsider their vote,” Farrell said.
Farrell said those taking part in the vigil this morning will assemble a mock graveyard as part of the World AIDS Day observance.
“The graveyard will symbolize the 740 people who have died from AIDS in Orange County,” Farrell said.
The Orange County Visibility League will conduct its regular monthly membership meeting at 7:30 tonight, at the vigil site, Farrell said. After the meeting, the mock graveyard will be disassembled, and the vigil will end at midnight, he added.
