Olympian Janet Evans ran her unbeaten streak to 27 consecutive races before seeing it end Sunday night at the U.S. Open swimming meet in Orlando, Fla.
Evans cruised to a first-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle in 4 minutes, 12.13 seconds, but then had to settle for second place in the 200-meter backstroke to Janie Wagstaff of Mission Hills, Kan., who won that race in 2:15.33.
Evans, of Placentia, last lost a race in August, 1987 at the Pan Pacific meet in Brisbane, Australia.
She won Olympic gold medals in the 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 400 individual medley at Seoul.
