MiniScribe to Take Charge, Transfer Work: MiniScribe, a troubled Longmont, Colo., computer disk-drive maker formerly headed by Quentin T. Wiles of Sherman Oaks, said it is taking a $40-million charge against earnings for the second quarter that ended July 2 and is moving all domestic manufacturing to its plants in Singapore and Hong Kong. The move will result in the layoff of 110 workers. The company said that as of July 2, its debts exceeded its assets by about $128 million.
