CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : FRONTERA : Firetruck Escape Crashes in Failure
Driving a stolen one-ton prison firetruck loaded with firefighting equipment, an inmate attempted to crash out of the California Institution for Women at Frontera in San Bernardino County, but succeeded only in hitting other vehicles and a tree, prison authorities said. The prisoner, Shirley Wolf, 20, was convicted at age 14 of stabbing an 85-year-old Auburn woman to death. Wolf was dazed but not seriously hurt in the crash. She now faces possible additional charges of attempting to escape and causing an estimated $30,000 damage to the truck, which was “pretty much totaled,” officials said.
