The West Los Angeles Shooting Stars, a select soccer team of girls age 8 and 9 from the American Youth Soccer Organization Region 70, finished second at the Western Cup Tournament in Visalia.
The local team, coached by Margo Precht and Pete Bernier, defeated Coalinga, Tulare, the Visalia Hot Shots and Winters at the tournament and lost the championship game to the Visalia Golden Strikers, 3-2.
Elizabeth Bernier, 9, of the Shooting Stars led all tournament scorers with 13 goals. Other members of the West Los Angeles team included Katy Beeley, Lynne Brinkman, Ashley Brown, Carolyn Cotterman, Morgan Frohman and Lauren Jordan.
Others are Jessica Hilberman, Amanda Mazzer, sisters Christina and Garrette Silverman, Danielle Sires and Teri Thomas.
Holes in one were scored at Los Angeles municipal golf courses by Pat Sullivan of Westchester, Joanne Wehmueller of West Los Angeles and Don Lawson of Marina del Rey at Penmar and at the Rancho Park nine-hole layout by Nancy Kelly, Ed Burgess and Daniel Casey, all of West Los Angeles.
