Bill Press’ Broadcasts
Regarding “Channel 7 Catches Flak for Allowing Press Commentary,” Nov. 21: KABC-TV commentator Bill Press is plainly qualified to be seeking political office. Already, he is adept at responding to criticism by accusing his critics of attacking not him but the Constitution and the First Amendment.
Press would do well to remember that the remedy for misleading speech--such as his--is for critics to exercise their free-speech rights to flush it out.
In his broadcasts on insurance issues, I have yet to hear Press disclose his political aspirations. Press has a right to express his views. Since he has a better forum than most of us--a nightly newscast--he would do well to exercise that right more responsibly.
