Sentence
The sentencing of Durrell DeWitt Collins to 27 years in prison by Judge James Albracht for the vicious murder of Karen Toshima in Westwood is a pathetic example of our criminal judicial system (Metro, Dec. 2). The warm and caring judge feels that society failed the poor and neglected Collins.
In reality, Collins failed himself, and society has no responsibility to help such sub-humans. He should have been sentenced to death. Instead, with good behavior, he will be walking the streets in 14 years, while Toshima will never see the sun again, and her family and friends will live with grief forever.
The warm-hearted judge deserves a taste of his own medicine--then maybe he will learn how to dish out a just sentence.
