SEAL BEACH : Building, Fire Codes Raised to Standard
The City Council this week took a series of votes to bring local building and fire codes up to state standard.
The new codes, which are updated by the state and city every two to three years, call for an upgrade in fire retardant roof tiles on new homes, stricter fire safety requirements in high-rise buildings, and mandatory fire sprinkler systems in new homes with more than 3,600 square feet.
The council also passed ordinances and resolutions necessary to set next year’s City Council election for March 27.
Seats will be open in districts 1, 3 and 5--downtown, the hill area and Leisure World.
Candidates may submit their notices of intention to run to the city clerk between Dec. 28 and Jan. 18.
To qualify, candidates must obtain 20 to 30 signatures from Seal Beach residents.
