Santa Monica : Low-Income Housing Plan
Apartment developers may soon be required to dedicate up to 50% of their projects to low-income housing. The City Council directed the city staff to study a proposal that would require developers to dedicate between 30% and 50% of their units to low-income tenants.
Developers now have to dedicate 15% of their units to low-income level residents. If the proposed change takes effect, developers would retain the option of establishing the low-income portion of their housing at another location.
