O.C. Musicians Plan 3 Holiday Benefits

‘Tis the season to be charitable for musicians on the local pop music scene, who will lend their services to three holiday benefits this weekend. Concertgoers can do a good deed and catch performances in styles ranging from Jamaican reggae to blues, Cajun music, bluegrass and avant-garde rock.

The sixth annual Noise for Toys benefit is a two-show affair, tonight and Saturday at the Doll Hut, 107 S. Adams St. (near the corner of Manchester Avenue) in Anaheim, with local rockers pooling their talent to collect toys and money for the Canyon Acres Home for Abused Children.

Tonight’s lineup: Dirk & the Pugslies at 8 p.m., the Clints at 9, Rattlin’ Bones at 10, the Fullerton All-Stars, with members of Cheezboy and Berlin, at 11 p.m., and the Decadent Debutantes, the once-a-year group that gets together to play the Noise for Toys show, at midnight. On Saturday, Rhythm & Booze plays at 8 p.m., Nevada Time at 9, Cheezboy at 10, Swingset at 11, the Decadent Debutantes at midnight, and the Joneses at 1 a.m.

Admission, only open to those 21 and older, is $5 or its equivalent in unwrapped new toys. Information: (714) 533-1286.

The second annual Reggae Christmas Concert and Dance Benefit Show takes place Sunday from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Iglesia Community Center, 24671 Via Iglesia in Laguna Hills. The proceeds will go to the Orangewood Children’s Home for abused and neglected children.

StrangeJah Cole, the Jamaican ska veteran who now lives in Laguna Hills, will perform with singer Queen Rejoice and the Jah Cole Jammers, with backing by the 714 Band. Sharing the bill is Jamaican reggae veteran Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus. The event also offers a chance to sample Jamaican style food, drinks and crafts.

Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children, with a discount for those who donate an unwrapped toy. Information: (714) 458-6471 or (714) 830-8381.

The fifth annual Orange County Music for the Needy benefit features 15 acts playing from noon to midnight Sunday at the Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano. Christmas donations of money, canned goods, toys and other items will go to poor Orange County families designated by St. Barbara’s Church in Santa Ana.

The lineup: D.O.M.E.S. at noon, the Sleepers at 12:45, Louisiana Cajun Trio at 1:30, Dennis Roger Reed Band at 2:15, Eggplant at 3 p.m., James Harman Band at 3:45, the Beat Pests at 4:30, National People’s Gang at 5:15, Circadian Rhythm at 6 p.m., Wild Cards at 6:45, Wood & Smoke at 7:30, Joe Wood Project at 8:15, Don’t Mean Maybe at 9 p.m., Big Drill Car at 9:45, Dick Dale at 10:30.
