The E.T. Event
Like Mr. Spielberg, I have always wanted to be a film maker. I know the “lust for film making” he was referring to, but no one around me seems to understand. My family and friends tell me that the business is too competitive and Hollywood will eat me alive. I always ignored them because I believed in my dream and I never really considered film making as a competition but rather as a personal satisfaction.
But after reading Rosenfield’s interview with Mr. Spielberg and the director’s statement that “careers begin or end based on one movie,” I’ve realized that I can’t afford that risk. And so, I want to thank you, Mr. Spielberg, for waking me up and bringing me back to the evil financial reality. I think I’ll change my major and be a teacher instead.
