University of Pittsburgh officials are considering replacing football Coach Mike Gottfried with offensive coordinator Paul Hackett, according to a published report.
The Pittsburgh Press reported that Hackett heads a list of possible replacements for Gottfried.
Pitt officials have not confirmed that Gottfried has been fired, but athletic department sources told the newspaper and the Associated Press that he was dismissed Thursday after refusing to resign.
The newspaper said Athletic Director Ed Bozik has scheduled a meeting Monday with assistant coaches to inform them of their futures with the team. All but Gottfried are said to have their jobs at least until after the John Hancock Bowl on Dec. 30.
Hackett probably will coach the Panthers in the bowl game against Texas A&M;, the paper said.
