Anton Agrees to Stay On in School District Post
William Anton, deputy superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District and its highest-ranking Latino, has reconsidered his plan to retire next year and--at the request of two of the school board’s seven members--will stay on as one of the district’s three top administrators.
Anton, 65, had announced last month that he planned to retire from his $146,052-a-year post in June. But board members Leticia Quezada and Rita Walters urged him to reconsider, lauding him for years of dedicated service on behalf of the district’s disadvantaged and minority children.
