CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : 3 Bombs Found in Department Stores
Three incendiary bombs have been found in major downtown San Francisco department stores since the holiday shopping season began, police disclosed. None of the devices exploded. It is not known if there is any connection between the three incidents, Police Officer David Ambrose said. The latest incident was over the weekend at The Emporium, where a bomb was found by a store employee in a box under a rug after moving a sofa in the area, police said. On Nov. 25, a bomb was found in a package at the I. Magnin store, and another was found on Dec. 14 at Macy’s. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is also investigating, Ambrose said.
