Northrop to Cut Fighter Spending: Northrop Corp. has told the Air Force that it will cut spending on the Advanced Tactical Fighter competition because of uncertainties over funding, a Northrop spokesman said. The dispute involves compensation that the Air Force is offering to pay the rival development teams led by Northrop and Lockheed Corp. for delays in the demonstration phase of the plane, which is designed to be state-of-the art well into the next century. “We have informed the Air Force that until these uncertainties are resolved, we’ll conserve our resources and reduce our spending to the minimum required to meet our contractual commitments,” said Northrop’s Tony Cantafio.
