E. C. Dothard; Georgia Trooper Grazed by Bullet Meant for Wallace
E. C. Dothard, 58, a state trooper grazed in the abdomen by a gunshot in the 1972 assassination attempt on Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace. Capt. Dothard, who served 5 1/2 years as state public safety director and was Wallace’s chief security guard during the governor’s presidential campaign, shot himself Dec. 15 in a hospital in Anniston, Ala., where he had been found to have a terminal malignancy.
