As Police Chase Suspect, Patrol Car Is Set Afire
Two police officers returning from a foot chase with a misdemeanor suspect found their new squad car in flames, authorities said Wednesday.
The two uniformed officers from the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums anti-gang unit had left the car at Daly Street and Manitou Avenue in Montecito Heights when they ran after the suspect about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Michael Lund said. The officers caught the suspect a short distance away and returned to find their black-and-white patrol car in flames.
Someone had broken the car’s windows and thrown burning debris inside, igniting a blaze that heavily damaged the car, Lund said.
