COUNTYWIDE : Christmas Tree Burnings Planned
Three Christmas tree bonfires are planned by the Orange County Fire Department to help residents dispose of dead evergreens during the post-holiday season.
The first is scheduled at 6 p.m. Saturday in Yorba Linda, at the northwest corner of Yorba Linda Boulevard and Stonehaven Drive. Trees will be accepted at the site today and Saturday.
Two burnings are scheduled in the South County for Jan. 6.
Trees will be burned in Rancho Santa Margarita at 4:30 p.m. at the southeast corner of Comercio and Avenida Empresa. Trees are being accepted through Jan. 6.
In San Juan Capistrano, tree burning will begin at 6 p.m. at the end of La Novia Avenue, east of San Juan Creek Road. Trees will be accepted there on Jan. 6 only.
Dead Christmas trees are considered a big fire hazard and can fully ignite in a matter of seconds, fire officials said.
The tree burnings will include demonstrations of fire-extinguishing equipment, and the public is invited. For more information, call (714) 744-0496.
