2 Antelope Valley Players Suspended
Point guard Dedan Thomas and center Danny Griffin have been suspended indefinitely from the Antelope Valley College basketball team “pending further review of their situation,” a school spokesman said Friday.
Thomas, a freshman from Taft High, and Griffin, a freshman from Crenshaw, did not accompany the team to the Desert tournament in Palm Springs, where the Marauders will play Golden West tonight in the championship game.
Glenn Haller, sports information director for Antelope Valley, said the players’ absences were “a team matter” and that Antelope Valley Coach Newton Chelette “will discuss (the players’) fate when they get back.”
Neither Thomas, nor Griffin nor Chelette could not be reached for comment.
Thomas and Griffin are averaging 12.6 and 10.2 points a game, for the Marauders (14-4).
