From Times staff and Wire reports

Striking miners returned to work at the Czerwone Zaglebie coal mine near Katowice, the last holdout among nine pits hit by walkouts last week. Miners at four other striking mines in Upper and Lower Silesia voted to return to work also. A local Solidarity official at one of the mines said the miners had reached agreement with mine managers and government officials on a plan for restructuring the wage system. One day earlier, Lech Walesa, Solidarity’s founder, appealed to Polish workers for restraint, warning that strikes could undermine the government’s economic reform program and lead to anarchy.
