Cuban Nuns

In response to “For Exiled Nuns, It’s Too Late,” Part A, Jan 20:

Dan Fisher’s report about the exiled nuns of Czechoslovakia reminded me of the even sadder fate of the Poor Clares of Cuba. Those cloistered souls, most of them elderly, were expelled and ended up in the outskirts of Corpus Christi, Tex. One of them was my aunt who died there few years after arriving.

I visited the small chapel, in the middle of nowhere and seeing the Cuban flag in the altar, I tell you it was difficult not to swear against the diabolical tyrant who displaced the poor ones, many of them senile to a foreign land (the only one that accepted them) perhaps to convert their convent to another prison or police station! At least the ones in Czechoslovakia were left in their own country.
