Alemany Girls Increase Lead
Alemany High trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half but rallied to defeat Notre Dame, 39-35, in girls’ basketball.
The victory extended Alemany’s lead in the San Fernando Valley League to two games over Notre Dame.
Lara Bridi gave Alemany (16-6 overall, 8-0 in league play) a 37-35 lead with 58 seconds to play on a 15-foot jump shot and sealed the win with a steal with three seconds left. Bridi scored six of Alemany’s last eight points.
Rachel Corelli also helped the Alemany cause with a game-high 18 points. Corelli’s three-point play with five minutes remaining tied the score, 31-31.
Notre Dame (8-9, 6-2) was led by Kim Fischer (18 points) and Julie Nelson (nine points and 17 rebounds).
Notre Dame built a 25-14 halftime lead by shooting 58% from the field, but Alemany’s zone press brought the Indians back.
