SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

More than 2,500 participants are expected to take to the streets of Woodland Hills on Sunday morning for the fifth Heart Run.

The race--and its accompanying Heart Walk--winds through the Warner Center Park area and finishes at Owensmouth Avenue and Califa Street.

All proceeds from the event, which starts with the five-kilometer race at 8 a.m. and concludes with the 10K competition at 8:30, benefit the American Heart Assn.’s battle against heart diseases.

As an addition to this year’s Heart Run, a Heart Walk will replace last year’s 2K Fun Walk. Walkers raise money for the association based on number of laps walked.

The top two pledge earners in the walk will win trips for two to Hawaii and Las Vegas.

The 1990 Heart Run Organizing Committee expects to raise in excess of $35,000 for the American Heart Assn. The organization received $20,000 from the 1989 race.

The first 300 finishers will receive free body-fat testing and massage therapy along with health-information packets.

Danny Everett and Jackie Hansen, internationally renowned runners, will serve as co-starters.

Everett won gold and bronze medals in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and is the current world indoor record-holder at 400 meters.

Hansen won the Boston Marathon in 1973 and became the first woman marathoner to break the 2-hour 40-minute barrier in 1975.
