P.M. BRIEFING : Harrods to Close Fur Salon
- Share via
LONDON — Harrods, the luxury London store, said today it will close its fur department because public opposition to killing animals for skins has hit sales.
“It’s just not the done thing to wear a fur coat in public anymore,” a spokesman said. “Harrods has to move with the times.”
The first-floor fur salon in the Knightsbridge store is closing April 21 after 140 years of selling coats and accessories to the rich and famous.
Harrods, part of the House of Fraser retail group, plans a sale of 1,500 fur coats, jackets and stoles. The star buy is expected to be a full-length Russian sable coat going for half-price at $68,000.
