WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : VanEmbricqs Lifts UCLA; USC Falls to Stanford, 86-60

Senior forward Sandra VanEmbricqs scored 14 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked five shots Thursday night to lead UCLA past California, 80-66, for its fourth consecutive victory in a Pacific 10 Conference women’s basketball game at Berkeley.

Trailing at halftime, 42-37, the Bruins (14-8, 9-3 in the Pac-10) rallied in the second half behind the play of VanEmbricqs and point guard Nicole Anderson, who scored 14 points and had a career-high eight assists.

California fell to 13-9 and 5-7.

Stanford 86, USC 60--Trisha Stevens scored 21 points and the third-ranked Cardinal rebounded from its only defeat of the season by rolling past the Trojans at Stanford.

Tammy Hammond had 19 points for the Trojans (6-4, 3-10).

Stanford (21-1, 11-1) was coming off a loss to Washington, which took the No. 2 national ranking from the Cardinal and moved into a tie for the Pac-10 lead.
