SANTA ANA : Police Looking for Shooting Suspect
Police on Monday asked for the public’s help in locating a man suspected of killing his stepdaughter, wounding her younger sister and firing a gun at his 8-year-old-son and two other children.
Santa Ana Police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said investigators believe that Jose Luis Lopez, 34, is hiding in the area and is possibly armed and dangerous.
Lopez is wanted in connection with the death of stepdaughter Olivia Bahuman, 20. She was shot three times Saturday, apparently during an argument with Lopez about her boyfriend, police said.
Lopez is also suspected of wounding Bahuman’s 15-year-old sister, Eileen, in the arm and back and for firing at his 8-year-old son and two young girls, Thomas said.
Before fleeing the scene, Lopez fired several more rounds from a small caliber handgun at his son, who was watching the attack from the house, and two neighborhood girls, who were outside, she said.
Police recovered Lopez’s car a short time after the attack and believe he is still in the area, although they said he may have fled to relatives in Mexico or to a brother’s house in Los Angeles.
Information about the case should be directed to homicide detectives at (714) 647-5116 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. or at (714) 834-4801 during other hours.
