Clorox May Build Plant in Maryland
Clorox Co. of Oakland said it is weighing plans to build a bleach-making plant and distribution center in Maryland that would provide about 100 new jobs.
A Clorox spokesmen said the company will complete an economic review, find an adequate water supply and ensure the necessary permits can be obtained before the project moves beyond the planning stages.
Project manager Jim Berger said that if the plant is built, the facility would make and distribute bleach to points in Maryland and other states, commanding an investment of up to $75 million.
Berger assured county officials that the plant, which would cover up to 360,000 square feet just south of Aberdeen, would be environmentally “safe” and would comply with the Maryland’s non-tidal wetlands law that protects marshy areas.
