The Pasadena Modelers Society will hold a major regional model building contest and exhibition at the Pasadena Center, 300 E. Green St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12 who are with their parents.
The highlight of the exhibit will be a display of Soviet small arms put on by the Foreign Military Intelligence Group of the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin. The exhibit, a 10-by-20-foot mural display, includes weapons ranging from the AK-47 to the RPG-7 (rocket-propelled grenade) and 1/10-scale models of Soviet armored vehicles.
Among exhibits will be a 1/35-scale model of a Sherman tank and accessories used in World War II, above. The California Highway Patrol will display the Ford Mustang high-speed pursuit car with its 5.0-liter V-8 engine that is used on outlying freeways.
The model building competition will include the categories of armor, aircraft, ships, science fiction, dioramas, figures and automobiles.
