NAMES IN THE NEWS : Dinkins Gains Newborn Support
From Times staff and wire service reports
NEW YORK — Mayor David N. Dinkins’ circle of supporters grew by at least one when he became a grandfather for the second time, a spokesman said today.
Kalila Dinkins Hoggard was born Wednesday at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown, Conn., said mayoral spokesman Tom Kelly. “Mother, daughter and grandparents are all doing fine,” Kelly said.
Kalila’s parents, Donna Dinkins Hoggard and her husband, Jay, also have a son, Jamal, 3.
“Kalila” is Arabic for beloved, the mayor’s office said. Her grandfather’s first name means “beloved” in Hebrew.
