Carlsbad
A 23-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was killed, and his passenger was injured late Thursday night when the motorcycle he was operating at high speed collided with a car in Carlsbad, police said.
Officer Ron Akright said the motorcyclist was headed north about 11 p.m. on Carlsbad Boulevard, possibly with the cycle’s headlight out, when it collided with a car turning onto Carlsbad Boulevard from Acacia Avenue. Akright did not know how fast the motorcycle was going.
The passenger, a minor, was thrown 100 feet on Carlsbad Avenue, Akright said. He was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. His condition is not known.
A passenger in the car was taken to Tri-City Medical Center.
The victims’ names were being withheld pending notification of relatives, Akright said.
