‘Robin Hoods’ Protest New British Tax Plan
Reuters
LONDON — Twenty people, dressed as the legendary outlaw Robin Hood, disrupted a town council meeting in Nottingham on Monday to protest a new tax that many Britons feel steals from the poor and gives to the rich.
The demonstrators burst into the town hall blowing whistles and spraying shaving foam as legislators met to set the amount of poll tax each Nottingham resident over the age of 18 must pay. Five people were arrested, police said.
Many believe the tax is unfair because the rich will pay the same rate as the poor.
